RMT Profile: Amanda

Welcome to the second installment of our new series highlighting the people who make Massago so special. We recently chatted with popular RMT Amanda, who continued working in the industry upon moving from Ontario to Alberta.

Why she entered the industry: “Years back when I was job-hunting, someone mentioned massage therapy as an up-and-coming career option. I kept it in the back of my head and when I came home from some traveling, I buckled down and decided to see what the profession was all about. It checked off everything I was looking for!”

Massago was … “a lifesaver when I moved to Alberta and had to build my client base.”

Differences between working in the two provinces: “The biggest difference: in Alberta, massage therapy is an unregulated profession, so I did my homework before moving here. To be considered a reputable RMT, you need to be part of the professional associations. The schooling is also a bit different, which leads to a divide in the types of treatments offered.”

A staple in her fitness regime: “Martial arts. Fitness has always been a massive part of my life, even before I started working in massage therapy. I’m coming up on 13 years of being an AMT, and I do a lot of deep pressure and treatment-oriented massages. Martial arts have helped me stay conditioned for my work, filter stress and meet a lot of new people.”

Any parallels between fitness and massage? “Massage is physically demanding, and I don’t think I could have maintained this career without being fit. You can’t have one without the other. Fitness has been a massive saviour for me!”

She’s grateful for Massago because… “what they’ve created with this app is revolutionary to the industry. To have massage on demand is an incredible experience!”

What inspires her: “Female entrepreneurs who are able to accomplish having it all, in the sense that they have work/life balance, have a family and enjoy life, while riding the storm and still coming out persevering financially, emotionally and mentally.”

Massago works exclusively with therapists who are registered and in good standing with their province’s college of massage therapists or with governing massage associations. Learn more about our massage therapy services or book an appointment
