Five massage therapy FAQs

You loved our recent post on massage therapy myths! We’d love to continue providing you with helpful information to make your massage appointments the best possible experience.

That’s why we’re tackling frequently asked questions about massage. If you’ve never been for a massage, this blog post is for you! Check out our previous post on what to do before and after a massage appointment for even more tips.

What happens at a massage appointment?

After you’ve booked a massage through the Massago app, a qualified registered massage therapist (RMT) will arrive at your desired location with a portable massage table. You will need to provide sheets and towels for the table, which is explained in your pre-appointment email.

If it’s your first appointment with us or if it’s been a while since your last appointment, you’ll fill out a health history form before your treatment begins to let us know of your concerns and any relevant information required to treat you safely. You only need to complete the form once a year, even if you see different Massago therapists.

We’ll leave the room and give you a few minutes to undress and get comfortable on the table, then let the relaxation begin!

I’m self-conscious about my weight/body hair/scars/etc. Do I really need to take my clothes off?

Not at all! You only need to remove clothing you feel comfortable with. To maintain your privacy, we will drape a sheet over you as we work on different areas. For certain massages, you can opt for a fully clothed treatment.

But, please don’t be self-conscious! Whatever your concern, we’re judgment-free and are focused only on providing an exceptional massage therapy treatment.

Is massage painful?

While there can be some pain or discomfort experienced if a spot is particularly tender or tense, it is typically short-lived, after which you’ll feel relief in the form of decreased pain and improved range of motion.

What if the pressure is too much or not enough for me?

Please communicate with your RMT about your preferences. If there is a specific spot on your body you want them to focus on or avoid, or if a certain move is uncomfortable, let them know and they will adjust the treatment.

What if I fall asleep, snore or drool?

We’ll take that as the highest compliment! If you realize you’ve fallen asleep or have drooled, don’t feel uncomfortable or apologize. It doesn’t bother us and we’re happy you’ve achieved such a heightened state of relaxation.
