make the most of your massage

Six ways to make the most of your massage appointment

Getting a massage should be a relaxing and therapeutic experience in and of itself, but there are ways to make your appointment even better! We’ve compiled a list of six things you should do to make the most of your next massage:

1) Start by reading our refresher on what to do before and after a massage appointment.

2) Prepare for your RMT. If you haven’t been for a massage before or it’s been a while since your last one, you can brush up on frequently asked questions so you know how to prepare for the arrival of your Massago RMT. Being prepared will help you to relax and unwind before the treatment even begins.

Pro tip: Visit the restroom before your massage, too!

3) Stay hydrated. While we’ve already mentioned this in our list of what to do before and after our massage appointment, it bears repeating. Drink lots of water and eat lightly before your massage.

4) Communicate, communicate, communicate. We can’t stress this enough! This is your massage, and we want you to enjoy it.

While RMTs are in tune with your body, we aren’t mind-readers. Before your massage begins, tell us about any specific areas of tension or pain that you want us to focus on. Ditto if there are any spots we should avoid.

If you’re experiencing discomfort or would prefer a different level of pressure, let your therapist know and we will adjust the treatment to better suit your needs. You won’t hurt our feelings, we promise!

4) Focus on your breathing. During your massage, especially when your RMT is working on a tight spot, you may find yourself holding your breath. Make sure to continue to take slow, deep, even breaths to help you relax even further. While it’s easy to let your mind wander, always bring it back to your breath and be more present.

6) Give yourself time after your massage. If you’ve got a busy day ahead of you, chances are, you won’t be able to fully relax during your treatment. Schedule your massage appointments strategically so you can rest afterward and your day isn’t filled with stressful meetings or activities!

Booking regular massages is beneficial to both the body and mind, particularly if you have chronic health issues. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to making the most out of every massage appointment from now on.
